People to People

Virtue is not left to stand alone. He who practices it will have neighbours. The sister district relationship being forged with Hurunui is about becoming neighbours and friends with a community that has a common belief in people to people diplomacy.

By opening our doors of friendship we encourage understanding of one and other.

In our sister district relationship we encourages our youth to seek and expand their knowledge of the world, so they have a better perception of global diplomacy and cultural understanding.

Other ways in Changping has opened its doors to people of other countries is via the Beijing Olympics and being the host for the triathlon and Road Cycling events and being proactive in aspects of the Beijing Paralympic Games.  Changping has hosted many other international events including Beijing International Long Walk, International Magic Competition and Beijing Agriculture Carnival.

The sister district relationship works to strengthen partnerships between communities. Initially this starts at a Municipal level with a vision to promote cultural understanding and stimulate economic development.

A cornerstone of this relationship involves Hurunui's strong youth programme which aims to encourage young people to become active in community affairs and events. Through participation they gain valuable skills and learn about local government, global diplomacy and cultural understanding.

Engaging with our youth in this way allows this cultural understanding to filter out into the wider community and helps to drive change.
